Scripture is filled with prophecies related to the End Times.  Many of us gravitate toward these  –  partly from a desire to understand the world in which we live, and partly from a genuine longing for Christ’s return.

Dismayed by the sadness and turmoil around us, Christians ache for the promise of heaven, for peace on earth and perfect justice.  The temptation is to turn away from the world and its troubles.  We cannot though do that.

Christians are called to be salt and light to the world, to ease the world’s pain and share with the lost the hope Christ alone can offer.  That is our role.

As we see darkness rising in the world, we have two choices:  either to give in to discouragement and despair, or fight ignorance and injustice as Christ would have us do.  He put us here for a purpose.

In the same way, End Times prophecy can be viewed either from the perspective of hope or despair.

Evil may be gaining ground, but its days are numbered.  Christ will return to rule and reign forever.  Each day brings us closer to that eventuality.

With this in mind, Dr. David Reagan of Lamb and Lion Ministries and others have compiled lists of End Times prophecies [1].  The list here does not claim to be exhaustive.  Taken as a whole, however, it is remarkably persuasive.

Nature

  1. Increasing instability of nature – “And there will be great earthquakes in various places…and there will be fearful sights…” (Luke 21: 11).
  2. Signs in the heavens – “…the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Matt. 24: 29).

Immorality/Hedonism

  1. Increasing immorality – “But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be” (Matt. 24: 37); “Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator…” (Rom. 1: 24-25).
  2. Increasing hedonism – “For men will be…lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” (2 Tim. 3: 2, 4).

  4. Denial of Creation by God – “…[S]ince the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened” (Rom. 1: 20-21).
  5. Denial of the Second Coming – “...scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming?  For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation‘” (2 Peter 3: 3-4).

  13. Increasing persecution of Christians – “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake” (Matt. 24: 9); “It was granted to him [the Antichrist] to make war with the saints and to overcome them” (Rev. 13: 7).

  1. Interesting list, thank you.

  2. Anna,
Quite a telling compilation. It’s difficult not to read the list of end time signs and feel the need to cry, Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
    pax,

    • It is heartbreaking that we have not done better w/ this world of ours. But creation, itself, is groaning to be set free from the bondage of sin (Rom. 8: 19-21).

      • Our hope is in God alone, even as we pray knowing “we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph. 2:10 How full of assurance and comfort the word of God is to us who believe! ❤️

      • So right, Dora! ❤

  3. Just a word of caution to a wise lawyer; A few of these signs are not signs of the end (see https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=matthew+24%3A3-8&version=ESV) “All these are but the beginnings of birth pains.”
Indeed, many of these are signs of the end times as reported by Paul to Timothy in the first century, but things will continue to get worse all the way up until the end.
Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” 2 Timothy 3:12-13
See https://capost2k.wordpress.com/2016/09/18/the-end-is-nearer/ for some thoughts on how close we are now to the End.
    ❤️&🙏, c.a.

    • Thank you for adding that caution. “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only” (Matt. 24: 36).

  4. We really are encouraged to have an awareness level of the times, signs and where and who we are to help. Only God can get us to that level working in and through us. Thanks Anna

Thanks, Anna. It would take a book-length comment to speak to all the items on that list, some of which are someone else’s opinion (if I may so say). My view is that the “last days” extend from the first coming of Christ to the second. For the writer of Hebrew wrote some two thousand years ago that God “hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son…” (Heb 1:2). And John not many years after that wrote, “Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time” (1 Jn 2:18).

However, surely we must be in the last of the last days. The travail pains are certainly much closer together, it seems to me.

    • Every day brings us closer to Christ’s return, whenever that may be. W/ the world growing daily darker, I take consolation in that fact.

  6. Interesting list, comprehensive. I avoided Christ and Christianity in my 20’s out of ignorance, but a particular event (finding out who Jimmy Saville was) revealed to me that Good and Spirit existed because i discovered the very intense reality of its opposite, evil. I have always found it interesting – and have noticed more lately – that there are people turning hard to the Good because the evil in the world is so glaring – and every day becomes more unmasked. It reminds me of a quote from Faust: “I am part of that power which eternally wills evil and eternally works good.”
More and more people are waking up everyday. and making a choice.

  7. Thanks for this – very useful…

  8. Great list and worthy of further study. As mentioned some of these verses can be interpreted in more than one way but God bless whoever put them all together.in this format making for such easy reference. Thanks for posting!

  9. I notice that you’ve been taking a break from blogging, I’m sure for a good reason. Trust that all is well with you on the home front. Regards.
