Left Wing Bias

October 1, 2023

“The Left has decided that Jews who are not victims are not true Jews…”

-Rabbi Dr. Gerald Meister, former advisor to Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs [1A]

There was a time that the political Left supported Jews and the idea of a Jewish homeland [2].  But that has since changed.

While strident antisemitism was always prominent on the communist far Left, it has now spread to the liberal mainstream [3].

Media Bias

Liberal bias is most obvious in the media.  The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is generally mischaracterized as Western colonialism.  Reporting invariably takes a sympathetic view of the Palestinians, a supposedly oppressed people.

This slanted approach not only ignores the true history of the area, but miscasts the current reality.

History

From 1517 to 1917, the West Bank was part of the Ottoman Empire [4].  From 1917 to 1967, the territory was administered first by Britain, then Jordan.

Israel acquired that territory in the defensive Six-Day War the nation fought in 1967 against a coalition of larger Arab states which included Egypt, Syria, and Jordan [5].

A War of Ideologies

“What Westerners don’t understand is that it’s not a war over land.  This is not a war over land…What they [radical Muslims] want is what you see them doing to Joseph’s tomb…They want the destruction of everything Jewish.  They want the destruction of everything Christian.”

-Walid Shoebat, former PLO terrorist [1B]

The Arab world has never come to terms with Israel’s existence.  Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) are explicit about their animosity toward Israel [6][7][8].  All deny the Holocaust, but favor outright extermination of the Jews.

Not surprisingly, Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf is widely disseminated in the Arab world [1C].

Categorization of an unaffiliated group of inhabitants of the West Bank as a disenfranchised people was a masterstroke of propaganda, giving Muslim genocidal intentions toward the Jews a veneer of morality [1D].

Two-State Solution

In point of fact, Israel would be agreeable to a two-state solution with security conditions guaranteeing its right to exist.  But this proposal has only radicalized more Arabs.

Media Influence

“The problem of the Left’s antisemitism is that it is born not only of antisemitism but of self-hate and anti-Americanism.  It doesn’t occur in a vacuum.  And it’s not theologically motivated.  It goes to the hostility toward values that Jews share with believing…Christians…”

-Rabbi Dr. Gerald Meister, former advisor to Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs [1D]

Rarely is liberal antisemitism recognized as such [9].

If acknowledged at all, it is rationalized as the defense of a mistreated minority.  Analogies are made to the Anti-Apartheid Movement, with Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians compared to the Nazi treatment of the Jews.

This bias is extremely dangerous.  The mainstream press has a broad reach into American society and American universities.  Campus debates about the Mideast are increasingly marred by hate-filled rhetoric and threats of violence [10].

Antisemitism has even made inroads into some mainline Protestant high churches which, for the most part, are already liberal theologically [1E][11].  But it is not biblical.

And God said to him, ‘Your name is Jacob…but Israel shall be your name.’…The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land” (Gen, 35: 10, 12).

He will bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse her. Consequences can be really bad.

I believe there is something far more sinister at work here. The statement that “this is not a war over land” is very true. At its core this is a battle of good vs evil. A battle between God and Satan.

The narrow strip of land we call Israel is not now nor has it ever been the ultimate prize. The prize is the destruction of all that identifies with God, be that Jew or Christian. Only then would Satan claim victory.

To those who study the scriptures, all of this is expected as we march ever closer to Armageddon.

You are right Anna, I have heard podcasts that claim to be Christian but they speak against the Jewish people, so I think they have not read their Bible enough to understand God’s word..
