We conclude our examination of postmodernism with a look at rationality and the proposed New World Order [1][2].

Rejection of Reason
A. The Lie

“Reason and the impulse to objectify truth are illusory masks for cultural power [3A].”

-8 Tenets of Postmodernism

B. Satan’s Reason for the Lie

“Tortured fear and stupid confidence are both desirable states of mind.”

-CS Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

C. The Truth

“…but test everything; hold fast what is good” (1 Thess. 5: 21).

Those deprived of the ability to reason have no way of assessing the world around them, and are slaves to emotion.

This makes mankind much easier for dictators to delude and control. It throws wide the door for Satan’s puppet, the Antichrist, and the New World Order he will put in place.

Revolutionary Critique of the Existing Order
A. The Lie

“Modern society with its rationalism, order, and unitary view of truth needs to be replaced by a new world order. The old order must be put away to be replaced by a new, as yet unclearly defined, mode of communal existence [3B].”

-8 Tenets of Postmodernism

B. Satan’s Reason for the Lie

“Gratitude looks to the Past and love to the Present; fear, avarice, lust, and ambition look ahead.”

-CS Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

C. The Truth

For God is not a God of confusion but of peace…” (1 Cor. 14: 33 ESV).

God prizes order.  He created the world in an orderly fashion, establishing the laws of nature so that they would point us to Him [4].

Satan’s goal has been to overturn that order by any method possible – however cruel, ruthless, or underhanded.  All Creation groans under the weight of sin, as a result (Rom. 8: 22).

Christ removes the chaos that is sin, and restores spiritual order to those who accept Him as Lord and Savior (John 10: 10).  It is He and He alone who will usher in a truly new world order (Rev. 20: 4-6) [5].

Witnessing to Postmodernists

It is beyond urgent that we learn to recognize and confront Satan’s lies.  Souls depend on it.

How then can Christians effectively witness to postmodernists, in fulfillment of the Great Commission?  Below are a few suggestions [6]:

  • We may be able to open a dialog by inquiring about spirituality.
  • We should find topics of mutual concern, for instance, poverty and injustice.
  • We cannot take a superior tone, lecture, dictate, or argue.  We should listen respectfully, instead.
  • We should abandon Christian lingo (with which postmodernists are unfamiliar) but not abandon Christian doctrine, in a misguided effort to make the Gospel more “palatable”.
  • We must focus on relationship, emphasizing that religion for Christians is about a relationship with Christ.  Bible stories may be of interest to postmodernists.  But sharing our own story of the impact Christ has had on our lives is key.
  • We must be patient, deferring to the Holy Spirit’s lead and His timing.

  1. And satan is very hard at work to overturn anything and everything that is of Christ. Hope you’re doing well Anna.

    • I trust things are good w/ you, Sue. I grow discouraged as the world grows darker. But my hope remains in Christ. ❤

      • Don’t be discouraged, it’s only the world coming to the boil so the scum can be removed by the angels, leaving the stock clear and pure.

Or the birth pangs, labour pains if you prefer, before the joy of a new born child.

It is always coldest just before dawn when the light comes.

      • Thank you so much for the encouragement. I sometimes need to be reminded that each day brings Christ’s return closer.

  2. I like the tips for effective Christian witness in engaging postmoderns. Thanks Anna.

  3. Excellent post Anna,

“Christ removes the chaos that is sin, and restores spiritual order to those who accept Him as Lord and Savior (John 10: 10). It is He and He alone who will usher in a truly new world order (Rev. 20: 4-6) [5].”
Indeed, the New World Order aka the Kingdom of God began some two thousand years ago upon the death, resurrection, and ascension of its king.

    • So true. Of course, I was referring Christ’s return. “Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed” (Dan. 7: 14).
