The Eye and the Wonders of God

“Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law” (Ps. 119: 18).
The human body is amazing. It is a wonder of engineering, which points toward a Creator for all those willing to acknowledge Him.
A smartphone with the following features would be considered extremely advanced:
- A panoramic field of view;
- 210 degrees of horizontal view;
- 4K facial recognition technology with the ability to identify a friend in a crowded room [1];
- “God-level” dynamic range (the range of brightness a camera can capture) from cave darkness to glare;
- 20 “stops” of light, i.e. measurements of exposure doubling or halving the amount of light reaching the sensor (the light sensitive component), allowing precise control over image brightness;
- Hyperfocused 576 megapixel mode which maximize depth of field, so that everything is acceptably sharp [2];
- Better than 4K 20/20 ultra-detailed stitching of images into video; and
- 60 frames/second smooth motion with Artificial Intelligence (AI) prediction and “fill in memory” recall.
Yet the human eye has all these features without the need for AI [3].
The eye of the brown bear, in addition, has a membrane called the tapetum lucidum behind the retina which reflects light back into the eye [12]. This gives the bear excellent night vision.

To be fair, Charles Darwin continued by saying that evolution of the eye could be possible, if science found multiple connected gradations from simple to complex in the fossil record [4B].
But revolutionary developments in biology are providing stronger evidence than ever of a purposeful Creator [5][6][7][8].
Darwin viewed evolution as the result of blind chance, random and wholly undirected. That cannot, however, explain the frequently observed phenomenon of convergence where the same structures exist in organisms which are not closely related, for instance, wings in insects, bats, and birds, or the eye of the octopus, the bear, and man [9][10].
This is now being attributed to “evolved purposiveness”. In other words, there must at a minimum exist structuralist laws in nature which science does not understand. In fact, there are strong indications all life forms – even single celled organisms – have some degree of agency. They impact their environment while their environment impacts them. That challenges the materialist and reductionist views prevalent in the scientific world.
Teleonomy is the study of the apparent goal-directedness in living systems without reference to a Creator [11]. To recognize God’s hand at work in creation, we must have spiritual perception, spiritual eyes as it were. Yet the wonder of His creation is all around us, if we will only choose to see.

A Lawyer's Prayers 
Not believing in God is a choice. I firmly believe that. The people who claim they don’t, including the atheists have to be ignoring their lack of real explanation for the wonders He created if He doesn’t exist, including humans, how are bodies are designed and work and all other species, as well as looking around the earth at all of his flowers, the trees, the sun, moon, stars, rain, snow etc.
One would have to intentionally blind themselves. It is a bit comical that some seem to believe that God isn’t mighty enough to create humans straight from dust but humans had to “evolve” from some kind of other creatures.
I think it is unintentional or intentional effort to discredit God once again.
For those who pretend God doesn’t exist, they may falsely believe this will keep them from being accountable to Him.
Amen! Willful ignorance doesn’t protect anyone from accountability.
Should say “our” bodies, not are
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Rom. 1: 20).
Paul said exactly what you have, Petrina. People willfully blind themselves to the existence of God. Some may mistakenly blame Him for the evil in the world. But you are very insightful in pointing out that many who pretend God does not exist falsely believe this will keep them from being accountable to Him.
One of the biggest problems on Darwinian evolution is “irreducible complexity.” While Darwin speculated on the evolution of the eye, and Dawkins expanded this, there is absolutely no evidence for gradual evolution of the complexity of the eye. Any single part missing and it is a blind clump that never would have “evolved.”
An excellent point.
To think that some of the brightest and most intelligent minds of history have concluded that God does not exist proves only that the standard they used to make their assumption is ridiculously flawed.
James 2:19 “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!”
Imagine that-we humans are so superior in our supposed intelligence, yet refuse to acknowledge what even demons recognize!

As I finished reading, Anna, I thought surely spiritual eyes are far more to be desired than physical eyes. Though I thank God, how great a loss it would be to wander through this world and never see the glory of God not only in all that He has created but that He has given to us in Christ Jesus.
I was an atheist for years, angry at God for the childhood abuse I had experienced. But He drew me back to Him, and I will be forever grateful.
